Killing Time in Longpont

Longpont France
I love surprises and yesterday I had a very pleasant one. I decided to take a short trip (20 minutes) to Longpont for the simple reason that it looked pretty. Well it was a lot more than pretty it was stunning.
Longpont France
I walked through a square enclosed at one end by this gorgeous buildng.
Longpont France
A pretty hotel was serving food on the terrace outside so I stopped for lunch. I was given a superb amuse bouche which I was told contained beetroot. It was delicious to be honest I could have eaten a bowl full.
Longpont France
I ordered a simple salad containing avacado, smoked duck and salmon. Delicious. Of course accompanied by a glass of vin rouge.
Longpont France
Along came the local groom and loaded the most beautiful horse I have ever seen. Huge stables are just down the road.
Longpont France
I ordered cafe creme but the milk didn't turn up. Not being a lover of black coffee I wasn't to pleased. However I tasted it and it was perfect. If all black coffee tasted like that I would be a convert. The hot milk did eventually turn up by the way.
Longpont France
The hotel was a typical old French establishment named after the abbey in the village.
Longpont France
A stunning building it is as well.
Longpont France
I wouldn't say no to livng in one of these houses that face it.
Now all this plus 2 types of bread, creamy butter, nuts and fruit, amazing black olives and of course the obligatory bottle of water came to 15 Euros. The view alone was worth that.

Le Weekend - Celebrating a Bean

Haricot Vert Fete Soissons
The French have a habit of celebrating anything. In Soissons at the weekend it was the Haricot Vert Fete. 3 days of celebrating a bean. See I told you so.
Haricot Vert Fete Soissons
I took Tiana, my granddaughter, who enjoyed every minute. And as is the case at every fete in France
Haricot Vert Fete Soissons
food was there in abundance. Tiana chose Crepe Chocolat and I chose frites with red wine. The bean casserole looked amazing but when I saw the size of the portions I thought I would never make the walk home.

The walk home was beautful as it had been a hot day and we walked along the river in the shade of the trees. Perfect!

Back To Blogging. Why? Because I Miss It

Soissons ancient building
Well after 6 months I'm back. My last post was March 2016. I foolishly thought I had had enough of blogging but all the time I was away I kept finding stuff but had no one to share it with. After all isn't that what blogging is all about?
As I'm typing this I am in France, one of the most inspiring countries in the world and my intention is to get this show on the road French style so here goes. Tune in for more as I get back in the swing.
rocante find
An amazing find at a Depot Vente in Jeaux, Picardie. These sell at home for around £300 here this was had for 35 Euros. No competition then?
french wines
5 Bottles of perfectly good wine for 8.29 Euros that included the fizzy water and a carrier bag.
day at the brocante
Seeing my gorgeous French grandchildren on a daily basis, priceless.
rose shaped ice cream
And you don't just get an ice cream you get a rose ice cream. What more could I ask?
Today Tiana (above)  and I are are off to the local fete. Believe it or not it's in celebration of the haricot bean. The French will celebrate anything, however the fete is a huge 3 day celebration. Flags are everywhere, tents erected and a parade organised for tomrrow afternoon. Who knew a bean could be that important

Ooh Oui Merci

Merci Paris
Quirky Wallpaper
Merci is the first place I hit whenever I visit Paris. It's eclectic, classy and friendly. It's stuffed with the most amazing fashions and things for the home. In fact I could happily live there. Until I make my move to France I will have to make do with their website but they do deliver to the UK in superfast time so not such a hardship.

Meet My Next Door Neighbour - Cumbria

Cumbria
On Monday I went over the county border to visit a friend in Penrith, Cumbria. I was shocked and amazed when on aprroaching Penrith these snow capped mountains came into view, even more shocked when I had an even better view from her terrace.
Cumbria
I swear it was like being in the alps. What a stunning county Cumbria is and so sad that they have had to tolerate so many floods in recent years.
A Celebration of Harris Tweed Rheged
On the way home I visited the Rheged Centre where I was thrilled to be able to see A Celebration of Harris Tweed. The colours are to die for.

Simples at Good Hood

good hood store
I love simple yet useful design. Good Hood based in London is a beautfully curated shop full to the gunnels with superb quality, simple items for the home and for wearing. I am extremely chuffed that they do a black potato peeler. I am so easily pleased. Oh and incidentally the prices are very reasonable.
